Reflecting an emotional internal dialogue to come to terms with a complicated relationship, The Nature of the Flame was written in late 2022 while the artist's mother was going through hospice care in her home. The music attempts to explore wonder, purpose, loss and melancholy without pulling the listener too far into darkness.
